I usually wait until the end of the Golden Globes to put up my dress favorites but I'm pretty sure this one won't be topped. Damn.

Michelle Dockery in Alexandre Vauthier at the Golden Globes, January 13th.

Edited to add Lucy Liu. I loved this dress.

Also, hottest couple, Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz.

Dec. 31st, 2012

Gotta type up all the movies I've seen, to finish my 2012 list. I usually watch more movies than this. I'm losing my touch. I guess it equals out to one movie a week.

43. Brave
44. Magic Mike
45. Savages
46. Bourne Legacy
47. The Dark Knight Rises
48. Wimpy Kid Dog Days
49. Lincoln
50. Bachelorette
51. Skyfall
52. Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

53. Pitch Perfect (watching tonight)

What to say about the year 2012? There are a few years that pop out at me as tough ones: 1988, 2001, 2008. 2012 belongs on this list for sure. It was kind of excruciating and I'm glad to see it go even though the past three months have been almost nice.

My neighbor is so damned creepy. He loves his guns, he hates liberals and he won't stop posting photos of himself with his shirt off on Facebook. You can't pick your family and you can't pick your neighbors.

Mik is back to work. He was only really unemployed for 2 months...and we had a severance package...yet it messed us up. I feel like such a wuss because it could have been so much worse. We spent the summer without health insurance. We're currently on a crappy plan with a 5K deductible that we were almost turned down for because of my daughter's allergy shots and my acne (those are legit "pre-existing" conditions apparently) but if we can make it to Nov. 1st, we are back to living the middle class dream of employer provided health insurance. What an idiot healthcare system we have.

2012 Movie Tally Cont.

29. Take This Waltz
30. Dead Poets Society--
never seen it, despite my love/hate for Ethan Hawke.
31. Life in a Day
32. Spider Man
33. Mrs. Brown
34. A Friend at the End of the World
35. John Carter
--so very bad
36. Cabin in the Woods
37. Mirror Mirror
38. Wrath of the Titans
39. Snow White and the Huntsman
40. What to Expect When You're Expecting
--kinda funny, I didn't hate it.
41. The Lorax--fell asleep.
42. Rock of Ages--also kinda funny, I didn't hate it.

It has been a really long time since I've seen a great movie. Do they make those anymore?

Mar. 3rd, 2012

Went to a baby shower today with my husband's side of the family and I laughed way too much and too loudly (I do that when I'm nervous) and outed myself as an atheist to a room full of hardcore Mormons. I'm so socially awkward. I should never leave the house.

Movies watched so far this year:
1. Wuthering Heights--2011 version. Liked this but I don't think I would have known what was going on if I didn't already know the plot. A very different version than previous WH movies.
2. Iron Lady--I thought this was laughably bad and camp. Meryl Streep's Margaret Thatcher was every bit as over the top as Faye Dunaway's Joan Crawford...and then she won the Oscar. I despair.
3. Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory--Oscar nominated documentary. I sort of remember hearing about this case from 1993 but never really looked into it. Watched the third in the HBO series of documentaries on the West Memphis 3 and then watched the previous two shortly after. Scarier than any horror movie. A terrible crime and the aftermath. Highly recommended.
4. Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills
5. Paradise Lost: Revelations
6. Shame--Apparently I need to see every movie Carey Mulligan is in. Michael Fassbender leaves me cold.
7. Higher Ground--A little indie movie with no big stars. Kinda enjoyable story about a woman who struggles with her religious faith.
8. The Vicious Kind--Another little indie from 2009. I really loved this movie about being attracted to people you should not be attracted to. Adam Scott was repulsive in this, yet still attractive which proves the theme. Heh.
9. In the Land of Blood and Honey--Sad love story set during the Bosnian war. I was at a prime age to know what was going on during that war (I was 22-25 years old), yet I barely knew the basics of who was involved and the war crimes committed.
10. My Week With Marilyn--This was awesome. Loved every second of it.
11. The Woman in Black--Scary, but the scares are kind of cheap, like the scares you get at an amusement park haunted house. I loved the set design but the plot was lacking.

Writer's Block: Just Say No!

What bad habit have you broken?
I've had nothing to talk about lately, so I'll be answering this. I sucked my thumb for the first 20 years of my life. 20 years. 20! I quit because I got married and it was too embarrassing for my husband to see me sucking my thumb. I stopped cold turkey. Such a ridiculous habit, but there you go. I also had a decade long addiction to Excedrin. I had to have it everyday or my head would ache like a son of a bitch. Then, there was the 3 year addiction to nose spray. I'm glad I never tried heroin or cocaine because I obviously have no willpower.

Going out with a whimper.

The year is winding up and so must my 2011 movie tally. Looking back, it was a pretty mediocre year for movies.

61. Cowboys and Aliens-Dumb
62. Peep World-Mildly entertaining
63. In Time-Timberlake should stop making movies full stop.
64. Four Christmases
65. Friends With Kids-I liked this.
66. Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene-Okay
67. Contagion-Pretty good.
68. Carnage-Terrible. Great cast but just didn't work at all and it grossed me out.

I'm pretty discontent at the moment. This month has been nothing but a money pit. The fence that got knocked down by the neighbor's shed in the windstorm is ending up our responsibility. Neighbor's insurance won't cover it because they say it was an 'act of god'. Neighbor takes this to mean she isn't responsible personally and isn't giving me a dime. I honestly despise that woman. My car also ended up needing about $1000 worth of repairs. The waiting room offered Starbucks and popcorn and you better bet I loaded up on that. Ha!

On the plus side, we've had very little snow this year. It's green and mild. I'm thrilled. Also good, early 90s Eddie Vedder. Seriously, look at him. I'm going through another grunge phase apparently.

Stupid gusting winds.

I live at the mouth of a canyon and we frequently get high winds. Last Thursday they were really high. Our neighbors' shed ended up in our back yard after it ripped through our fence. The sound was horrendous.

I totally have OCD and whenever I see the ripped up fence I despair. It's so silly but I can't fix it and I want it to look right. It makes me a little more crazy everyday. Poor, demolished fence. I'm trying my damndest to get someone/anyone to fix it before the snow piles up. We're in a very cold, dry pattern right now but if the snow flies, I'm screwed because no one will be able to fix it then. And then there's getting the neighbors to pay up for the damage. White girl problems.

Nov. 26th, 2011

Thanksgiving Eve, I stayed up until 3 a.m. watching Gone With The Wind with my two girls. That show is awful/fabulous. I cringed, laughed and awed at the whole 5 hour (with commercials) spectacle. This holiday weekend was also my husband's birthday and we went to the best sushi place. I'm a bad sport and only ordered cooked dishes but at least I used my chopsticks and didn't ask for a fork. My daughter loved the sunshine roll with raw salmon. It looked so good but I'm a germaphobe. :(

2011 Movie Tally continued:

46. Dot the I
47. Sleeping Beauty-Not the Disney film. Oh my.
48. Beginners-This movie has the cutest Jack Russell and Ewan. I kept thinking of those paparazzi pics with Ewan and costar Melanie Laurent and it kinda bummed me out though.
49. Retreat
50. Footloose
-Updated version. I remember the original version well because while in line to buy tickets, some idiot barfed on my shoes. My friends were dying to still see it, so I left my shoes in the movie theater's bathroom during the show. GROSS
51. Conan-So awful.
52. What's Your Number?
53. One Day
54. The Future
-Indie Hell. Miranda July is a weirdo. I'm a weirdo too but I don't chronicle my weirdness on film.
55. Restless-Cancer victims do not look like cute waifs.
56. Like Crazy
57. The Help

58. A Dangerous Method
59. Our Idiot Brother-
One joke movie.
60. Tabloid-This was a documentary about a beauty queen who kidnapped a Mormon missionary. Joyce McKinney is legit crazy and she's stalked a friend of mine for years. Holy moly.

I had to look up some of these movies on IMDB because I forgot all about them soon after seeing them. Not the best batch of films. I'm dying to see something brilliant and there isn't anything out currently. I am enjoying Homeland, American Horror Story and Downton Abbey (now over) on TV however. Yay TV.
